Finding the Right UK Web Hosting to Meet Your Needs

Finding the right webhosting can be a confusing process if you’re new to the internet. If you are designing your first website, you are probably overwhelmed with all of the hosting options available to you. You’re probably trying to save as much money as possible while at the same time, you are probably hoping you make the right choice for your website needs. You might even be considering some of the ‘free,’ webhosting plans on the market.

Keep in mind that there is no such thing as ‘free,’ webhosting. You might receive an introductory offer of free webhosting for a certain period of time, or you can become a subdomain under a larger website portal to receive ‘free,’ hosting. What having a subdomain means is that you will not have your own domain name. Having a subdomain gives your website an unprofessional image. If you don’t care about this, then you can use a subdomain. But a subdomain is not recommended unless you are creating a personal or family site. For example, if you get ‘free webhosting,’ from www.applelaugh.com, and you name your site TinasFurniture, your site’s URL will be www.tinasfurniture.applelaugh.com. All of your customers will wonder what www.applelaugh.com is, and why your store is affiliated with it. So why not just get your own webhosting and domain name through a reputable provider?

Choosing the right webhost can seem complicated at first, but it is a really simple process. The first thing that you must consider is what your website needs are right now. If you simply want to design a five page informational site, then chances are, you will be able to find a hosting plan anywhere to meet your needs. But if you have special hardware needs, then you will need a webhost that supports these needs. Special needs can include Visual Basic, Cold Fusion, SQL databases, ASP scriptiing languages, CGI, Perl, and SSL languages. If your site is designed using any of these platforms, then you will probably have programmers that are creating these portions of your site for you. Your programmers can help you choose a host that meets your needs.

If you are going to have a lot of graphics on your website, you will need a webhost that provides you with over 500MB of bandwidth. If you plan to have a lot of web traffic, this can take up a lot of bandwidth as well. You might want to go as high as 40GB – 100GB of monthly available bandwidth. Assess your site needs and consult with your site designer to choose the right webhost for your new website.
